North American same-dealer retail sales of used Class 8 trucks fell 5.7% month over month in September 2026, while overall used Class 8 sales rose 4.6%, according to ACT Research. The average retail price increased 11.5% to $64,007.

The contrasting sales figures show that the decline at same-dealer retail outlets did not extend to the overall used Class 8 market. The two measures cover different scopes, so the retail decline should not be read as a fall in total sales.
The higher average price points to a changing market as supply and demand and fleet replacement plans shift. For buyers and dealers, the question is whether higher prices persist alongside the difference between same-dealer retail and overall sales. The September figures alone do not establish how those measures will move in subsequent months.
